taking a moment to appreciate the way the light hits this corner ✨
i’m getting excited for spring ☀️ i have so many plants to repot this s/s, including philodendron rojo congo, which hasn’t been repotted since i’ve been living with them... so about 3 years 😳 lol [🔖#jmphilodendronrojocongo] i’ve topped them off with a fresh layer of soil each growing szn, but this szn i will def repot them in a bigger pot or i will trim their roots + place them back in this pot 🪴
this month’s #📚lostinplantopia book feature is anything written by one of my fave writers audre lorde. specifically, i’ve been reading sister outsider again & sitting in audre’s words. currently, i’m reflecting on the way she writes about difference & how it is the root of creativity + change. this book i’m holding is titled after one of the quotes that got me to think about how i approach the work that i do & beyond.
my monstera albo variegata from fiona @wool.n.jungle has been chilling over winter 😻 [🔖#jmmonsteradeliciosaalbovariegata] how’s everyone doing? it’s been a year since life as we know it changed in so many ways. in the beginning, i invested my energy into taking care of my well-being bc i was already in a bit of a funk due to things going on that were outside of my control. posting photos of my green fam, what i learn about them, and growing compassion & critical consciousness by sharing some of my work + thoughts online have been important to me as doing so brought me joy + hope during hard times. however, the reality is it was & still is a privilege to be safe at home spending time online posting to ig. for a while now, i’ve been reflecting on why i’m on here.
'Black on campus' on @cbcfifth tomorrow at 9pm est - this investigation will examine experiences of Black students, staff and faculty on Canadian campuses.
first off, happy new year / 新年快樂 / chúc mừng năm mới 🧧🐂 wishing you health + peace this year coming ❤️ i’ve been sitting on this post bc it’s been painful to witness + process what’s been going on. my heart hurts & i feel enraged seeing the violence towards asian elders in america... & then hurt by the lack of a mainstream response to anti-asian racism + violence. this shit has been going on since colonization - this thread touches on it, but there is so much more to learn. however, it blew up last year due to the coronavirus & narratives in the mainstream calling it the china virus or kung flu.
can’t imagine this space without my green fam 🥺🪴 [🔖#jmlivingroom🌿]
so far i’ve watered the succulents twice this winter [🔖#jmsucculents] these plants are tolerant to drought bc they store water in their leaves + stems. i don’t have grow lights so they’re a bit etiolated, but i know they’ll be good come spring.
